SECOND INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ISRAEL AND JUDAISM STUDIES
הכנס הבינלאומי השני לחקר ישראל והיהדות المؤتمر الدولي للدراسات الإسرائيلية واليهودية 27-29 EKİM 2018, CUMARTESİ- PAZARTESİ BANDIRMA Değerli akademisyenler, araştırmacılar ve öğrenciler İsrailiyat dergisi (e-ISSN 2645-890X) birincisini 2017 yılında Konya’da gerçekleştirdiğimiz yıllık bilimsel Uluslararası İsrail ve Yahudilik Çalışmaları Konferansının (ICIJS- tr:Aysicıs) ikincisini, Bandırma Onyedi Eylül Üniversitesi ortaklığında ve ev sahipliğinde 27-29 Ekim 2018 Cumartesi- Pazartesi günlerinde Bandırma’da düzenleneceğini duyurmaktan mutluluk duyar.
Ceyhun Çiçekçi, M. CALL FOR PAPERSSECOND INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ISRAEL AND JUDAISM STUDIES
İKİNCİ ULUSLARARASI İSRAİL VE YAHUDİLİK ÇALIŞMALARI KONFERANSI
הכנס הבינלאומי השני לחקר ישראל והיהדות المؤتمر الدولي للدراسات الإسرائيلية واليهودية OCTOBER 27-29, 2018, SATURDAY- MONDAY BANDIRMA Dear academics, researchers, and students Israiliyat journal (e-ISSN 2645-890X) is pleased to announce that the second annual scholarly International Conference on Israel and Judaism Studies (ICIJS- IPA aɪsidʒɪz/), whose first meeting had been held in Konya in 2017, will be scheduled in Bandırma, Turkey on October 27-29, 2018, Saturday- Monday in hosting and partnership with Bandirma Onyedi Eylul University. As an academic conference ICIJS’18 covers multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approach to the Israel and Judaism studies, incorporating history, politics, sociology, culture, and religion etc. The mission of ICIJS’18 is to provide a platform for academics, students, and researchers from Turkey and all over the world to present their research results in the field of Israel and Judaism studies. The conference provides an opportunity for well-balanced, objective, and bias-free sharing of academic research. In order to maintain a professional and comfortable environment, attendees are expected to show respect and courtesy for the diversity of conference attendees and presentations are submitted in in a non-threatening, collegial atmosphere. ICIJS’18 also is pleased to announce the annual rewards delivered for the second time for the distinguished dissertations/ theses in the field of Israel and Judaism Studies in the categories of history, politics and religion in both the M.A. and PhD. decrees. Moreover, original and translated books having scientific research methods will also be awarded for the first time. Like 2017, 2018 has been a year in which Israel and Judaism become a matter of debate in Turkey, the region and the world. The gathering and disseminating of academic discussions in this subject by critical way are crucial to achieving better rational and solution oriented outcomes for Israel and Judaism. ICIJS invites university faculty, early career scholars, graduate students, and independent/freelance researchers/ scholars from different world states to participate in its 2018 annual conference. Presentations and panels will be held in both Turkish and English.
Deadline for abstract/ full text submission: October 15, 2018; notification of acceptance: after review process without any loss of time; deadline for full text or research article submission: October 20, 2018; conference dates: October 27-29, 2018. The publishing and application/ registration procedures of the conference consist of three stages: (i) application by submitting abstract, (ii) registration by submitting full text and/or (iii) research articles. These two types of papers are defined according to length of text. Participants can submit both a full paper and a research paper at the same time or can submit either one. Since the conference presentations are max. 15 minutes in length, a short length full paper manuscript (nearly as extended abstract) should be size of 2,000- 4,000 words (six (6-12 pages). It must include (abstract (max. 300 words), keywords, text, figures, tables, citations and references). Turkish abstract is optional. Conference attendees are expected to submit a full paper with title, theoretical background, research questions, methodological approach and main hypotheses. A full length research article manuscript should be written in the range of 4,000-10,000 words to be published in Israiliyat journal or edited book. Research paper should be at least 50% different from the conference full paper. Up to two full papers by the same author(s) are accepted for oral presentation. Researchers who are unable to resolve the funding issue concerning the conference expenses will be provided with an alternative approach for participation, namely, virtual online presentation. Furthermore no submission fee is required as it is funded by university partially. ICIJS aims to combine scientific activities with an opportunity to meet in the historical city of Bandirma, which is the one of the Turkey's leading touristic and cultural centers in Northwestern Turkey in the vicinity of Istanbul. The voyage takes about two hours by fast Istanbul-Bandirma catamaran car ferries. with 150,000 inhabitants Bandırma is a coastal and seaside district of Balıkesir Province, Marmara Sea and Kapıdağ Peninsula where Erdek district of the in the north, Manyas district and Manyas Kus Lake in south, Gönen district in the West, and Karacabey district the province of Bursa Province in the East are located. It would be possible for attendees to arrange sightseeing tours to the historical area of Erdek and Kapidag peninsula where countryside of Erdek is located during the social program which will be offered by organizers of the conference. ICIJS will assist foreign participants to find appropriate accommodation near the conference venue. Israiliyat that is planning to organize an annual academic conference is highly careful with the unsustainable costs and inefficiencies associated with traditional commercial conferences. In case full public funding sponsors the conferences, there may be a risk of conflict of interest in terms of agenda setting and political/ ideological attitude. Also in non-sponsored professional conference, sometimes the registration fees may seem high which is virtually uneasy to afford without institutional support. In order to reduce costs conference has to be organized in simpler venues and by more volunteers. In ICIJS, there is no registration fee that conference participants pay in order to attend or present at the conference. Participants are responsible on booking and expenses of their accommodation and travel. Unfortunately, we do not have the resources to provide funding. But conference registration includes access to all conference sessions, conference materials (printed conference program and the conference proceedings online) meals (lunch) and refreshments (coffee breaks) and social program are free of charge. The aim of the organization is to act as a forum where academicians, students and researchers from all over the world in order to present their research, to create a network, to seek the insight and advice of successful senior researchers, and to discuss the future developments. Abstracts and full papers will be compiled into the Proceedings, which will be published electronically. Then extended and revised version of a conference full paper will be published in Israiliyat journal or national or international edited book. The conference has no simultaneous parallel sessions; thus, all participants to contribute to and profit from the full stream of discussions during the conference are longed. The organizers welcome all proposals, including suggestions for panels that are pertinent to Israel Studies and Judaism Studies. Please circulate the call for the call within your institution and more widely through networks to which you belong. We look forward to welcoming you at the ICIJS’18 in Bandirma. Yours sincerely, Ceyhun Cicekci M.
